Pixadores
Wednesday November the 5th

This film is special, almost unique. It delves deep into a city, a metropolis where almost everyone disappears, too big, too fast, too unfairly; especially on the hills, on the outskirts, in the favelas of São Paulo. That's where they live, four friends: Djan, William, Biscoito, and Ricardo. Their daily lives are difficult, between unemployment, poverty, violence, and drugs; and yet they are artists. In their own way, in their own world, with their own script and language: pixação.

Their lettering is omnipresent: monochrome, simple, cryptic, charismatic letters and shapes. Nothing remains untouched, no one can miss them. Bridges, skyscrapers, balconies, and roofs—there are no boundaries and no form of safety. Anyone who falls is seriously injured or killed.??

But Pixação is more.??

Pixação sees itself as a revolt, a rebellion against a society that abandons and forgets people in poverty and the favelas. With their letters and images, which stretch like a web across the entire city, they counter this. No one will or can forget them; their names on the walls ensure that. ??
...and suddenly. An invitation to the Berlin Biennale. Djan, William, Biscoito, and Ricardo are invited to demonstrate what it means to be a Pixadores. Two worlds and different ideas about art and activism collide, with consequences that reach back to their homeland... ??

The evening will included exclusive DJ sets from DJ DS mixing graffiti related Hip Hop with some Brazilian flavour.
